Goodbye Facebook

By |2019-10-15T16:03:54+01:00October 15th, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , , |

This has been coming for quite a while but finally, after a number of years of putting it off, I’ve decided to delete my Facebook pages. Both my personal page and the Richard Flint Photography page are going through the drawn-out process of being wiped. Facebook makes it easy to join but a lot less easier to say goodbye.

Although I joined the social network quite a few years ago now, I very rarely updated or even logged into the increasingly bloated social network site. For some reason, I never did like the social network in the same way as Twitter or Instagram. The argument that it is great staying in contact with friends no longer really applies as many of my core friends also have Instagram accounts. So it was time to pull the plug.

From a business point of view, Facebook rarely delivered anything of value. For years I was stuck with the same number of followers with little chance of increasing that number unless I paid Facebook to boost my profile. The page was stagnant. Again it was time to say goodbye.

The last couple of years have seen me rethink what websites and social media sites I use. The current core sites of Twitter and Instagram remain safe. The deletion of Facebook is a big change but a welcome one. Maybe it’s something I should have done much earlier.

Over the summer a number of improvements have been made to this website and others including a long-overdue revamp of the Redbubble store.

The Richard Flint Photography Redbubble Store

Launched in June 2008, the Redbubble store has delivered prints and other items to customers around the world. Speedway photo T-shirts to Australia and iPhone cases and prints of Glencoe to the USA – just to mention just a couple of recent orders. Over the years the store has expanded further as new images and new products have become available. It was time for an update.

Framed Prints and much More

The Redbubble store needed some love. Especially critical was the photography available there needed to be categorized better. Most important was the range of items available really needed to be updated across the portfolios. Initially just framed prints and other wall art had been available. That has now all changed to include more clothing, mugs, iPhone and iPad covers, notepads and bags – to mention just a few products. In most cases over 60 products are now available to buy.

More Photos and Portfolios

The most noticeable change regards the portfolios. More categories have been added to aid those looking for images of a specific subject matter. Animals, lighthouses, coast, whisky, street photography and more have been added with more to come. The Scotland images have also been broken down into regional portfolios that currently include Islay, Jura, Edinburgh, Borders and Skye. It makes finding a favourite image so much easier.

Zine Details

The twenty-four-page magazine has a total of nineteen images taken in Norfolk in 2016. The photographs were taken during a final family holiday with my mother that year.

The images conclude a trilogy of mobile-based photography shot in the English county over a number of years starting in 2009.

Norfolk Photozine Release Next Week

By |2019-07-01T22:42:12+01:00July 1st, 2019|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , |

After a delay due to ill health, I’m pleased to announce that the photo zine ‘Caught by the Tide’ will be released next week.

The Zine

The 24-page photo zine will contain nineteen images shot in Norfolk during a week-long visit in September 2016. Sadly the trip was to give my terminally ill mother a final family holiday. Shooting the images provided a small amount of escape.

Most of the recent work has been focussed around the text and setting the right tone for the zine. The images were taken during a very tough year, both emotionally and mentally and the text needs to reflect that period without being too gloomy. Not easy given the circumstances.

Finishing Touches

So this week will see the finishing touches made to the text before the zine is sent off. A web page will then be added to the website so that ‘Caught by the Tide’ can be purchased. More details about the price and where to purchase the zine will follow.

Zine Podcast

After release I’ll be recording a podcast about the zine and the photographs that will be released later this month.
