'Serenity III' tour boat moves closer to a Guille 'Serenity III' tour boat moves closer to a Guillemot colony on the Farne Islands - April 2023

The weather might have been fantastic but the waves had a little bite to them. Staying on your feet was pretty difficult. As the boat neared the Farne Islands the movement of the ship calmed down.

Taking images on a rocking boat brings a whole new game to taking photographs. Framing and shooting images becomes as much about timing as it does about composition skills.

I was pleased with how my images turned out. About the only shots that didn't work were the photos of puffins in flight. Wow those little birds can fly really fast!

Couple on the harbour at Seahouses, Northumberland Couple on the harbour at Seahouses, Northumberland. April 2023

Harbours provide plenty of distractions which provides plenty of opportunity for photographing people enjoying being by the sea.

I spotted this couple sitting on the seawall as i was walking down onto the harbour. I liked the closeness of the people and the signs. I didn't notice where the man's hand was until i was editing the photos on the computer :)

Alnmouth is a coastal village in Northumberland, England, situated 4 miles east-south-east of Alnwick. Founded in 1150, the village became known as Alnmouth because of its position at the mouth of the River Aln.

Waves come ashore near the beach at Bamburgh, Nort Waves come ashore near the beach at Bamburgh, Northumberland, UK

The weather was pretty good for Northumberland in April, so i decided to explore a little further along the beach from the castle.

This view of the castle has been used many times in movies and TV shows. The tide was coming in which created the great waves for the photo. I would like to shoot some photos sometime when the tide is at its lowest.

Not sure which photo i like better. Colour or black and white? Both, maybe.

I'm really pleased with the way these images of Dunstanburgh Castle came out. I only had a quick visit to the village of Craster, where the photo was taken, but the images just seemed to come together nicely.

The vantage point to get the photo came about totally by chance but provided a great view across the coastline towards the castle. Even the not so great weather played its part.

I think i prefer this black and white image of the castle to the colour one posted yesterday. It seems to create more of a timeless feel and removes the colourful but distracting yellow of the gorse bush on the left hand side of the frame.

I love castles but getting that timeless photo isn't always made easy by the modern world often close around them. Dunstanburgh castle has the benefit of being in a rural location with a fantastic vantage point from the harbour.

The sea was rolling in against the rocks which provided a great foreground for the images i shot. The harbour wall has a great viewpoint for the old castle especially on a rough spring day.
