I was very pleased when last week one of my photographs was featured on the Picfair blog in the post ‘Picfair’s Top 10 Image Uploads of the Week: 9th March‘.

The photograph was a recent image upload to Picfair shot during a snowstorm while walking in Consett, a town in the north east of England, at the start of the ‘Beast from the East’ winter storm that took hold of much of the UK in late February and early March. The photo was taken on the way back from shopping in the town, just as the snowfall had started to increase.

The image was also featured on the Picfair Twitter feed on March 8th.

Single Page Website

Websites come in many different sizes and don’t have to be multi page to do the job. A recent commission was to build a one page website for The Art of Living and Dying, a group of women helping those facing life’s highs and lows with practical information and professional yet sensitive support.

The group needed a simple, single page website setting up to provide contact and event information. The cost of building and running a hosted website didn’t really stack up for just one page so the website was created using the fully hosted wordpress.com with a domain name forwarding to the page. An effective and affordable solution that provides the option to expand the website if needed.

The website can be found at http://www.artfullivinganddying.co.uk

Looking for Something?

I’ve been doing some upgrading to website pages over the last couple of weeks and decided that the website could do with a search page. There are a few search forms located in the sidebar on a number of pages, but i think a dedicated page, just to search through the website posts, pages and portfolios, makes finding things that much easier.

Initially I started out with a simple search form and a photo, but then decided to try something a bit more radical. Again i started out just using one of my images as a background, but then hit upon the idea of using video shot in Skye during a visit in 2014.

Rather pleased with the results of using time lapse video as a background. A nice use of the footage from one of my favourite places as well.

Going, Going… Gone

Nearly the end of January (how time flies by!) and time to mention number of changes have been made over the last few weeks, as part of a streamlining of my social media and online presence for 2018.

During the latter part of 2017, i decided that i was going to reduce my social media usage and concentrate on certain platforms, rather than try and cover several accounts. The decision was also influenced by an increasing weariness with social media. Twitter and Instagram accounts will be the main accounts with an increase in postings to Instagram.

The services that have been archived or deleted are:-

AudioBoom – the page has been archived but will no longer have new recordings added to it. Any new recordings will be added to the current podcast feed.

Photography Printshop – The website that was no longer required. It has been replaced with the print shop on the this website. The site was deleted.

darker-skies.com domain –  I was never completely satisfied with the domain address, so it has been removed. The Darker Skies blog now has the default WordPress address of darkerskies.wordpress.com that will be used for the foreseeable future.

Paperli – An online paper that was published everyday at 6pm UTC linked on Twitter. This paper has been deleted after quite a few years of use. In the end, the relevance of the paper seemed to have passed by and the content filters were increasing failing to adequately filter out news that was not photography related.
