The Speedway Meet | Documentary photography

Speedway is a sport which has a massive following but is run on budgets far lower than other motorsports.

One of the most popular sports of the 1950s. Speedway was even watched at Wembley Stadium before the sport started to decline in the late 1960s.

By the 1970s and 1980s, many teams faced closure as stadium land was sold for redevelopment.

The Team

Wolverhampton’s team is regarded as one of the most successful teams of the last 20 years; being both successful in the sport and financially secure in an era when many teams face closure.

The images were taken at a Wolverhampton vs Poole meeting.

These images were taken using a Nikon F3HP fitted with an MD4 motor drive on Kodak TMAX 400 and Ilford HP5 film.

The photographs of the speedway bikes are some of my best selling images.

Scarborough Seafront | Documentary and Promotional Photography

This series of images, commissioned by a client for promotional use, were taken on a beautiful February day along the seafront around Scarborough’s South Bay.

Scarborough is a popular resort that attracts tourists from all over the country. The images were shot to represent a diverse and interesting town that attracts people all the year round. These images were taken in fabulous light on a bright early February day.

The Grand Hotel is a magnificent building that was completed in 1867.

It was among the largest hotels in the world at that time and perfectly shows the Victorian’s significant development of the town into a seaside resort. The constant presence of the Grand hotel over the South Bay can be seen in several of the images.

Several of the photographs are available to purchase as prints HERE.

Making Movies | Documentary Photography

Making Movies follows the production of a film in Whitby using an iPhone. Sadly the production ran into difficulties – film making is not an easy business – however, the photographs are shown here where shot in the early stages of filming from June 7th to late July 2010.

The Polaroid-style images were made went into the second book I made for the 2010 Solo Photo Book Month project. Solo Photo Book Month was an online photographic project (sadly the project closed in 2011) where the participants had to shoot, edit and design a PDF photo book in 31 days.

PDF Photography Book

An extended PDF book can be downloaded from the HERE featuring more images from the project.

The other PDF books from the Solo Photo Book Month projects are located in the photobooks section of the website.
