Mull of Galloway Lighthouse flashing its warning – May 2021

A new gallery has been added to the Redbubble shop containing a selection of new lighthouse images taken while staying at the Mull of Galloway lighthouse. New images are being added on a regular basis that can be purchased as wall art, mobile phone cases, and more. Check out the website at richflintphoto.redbubble.com

The Lighthouse

The construction of Mull of Galloway lighthouse was started in 1828 with the lighthouse coming into operation two years later in 1830. The design of the lighthouse remained pretty much a standard for all lighthouses constructed throughout Scotland. In 1986 the lighthouse was finally automated and the lighthouse keepers left the Mull.

The lighthouse itself is still owned and maintained by the Northern Lighthouse Board but the remaining buildings are owned by the Mull of Galloway community trust,

Lighthouse Photographs

A number of images of the lighthouse are available to purchase but the two night shots of the light flashing are favourites of mine. It was a photograph i wanted to get of the light flashing it warning – after all its what the lighthouse is for!

The two photographs were taken on different nights. Fortunately, the weather remained very good with no rain, however, the wind proved to be a slight challenge. Cold gusts of wind vibrated the tripod and camera making the exposures challenging. I am pleased with the resulting photographs. The darker, more moody lighthouse image has a cinematic feel to it whereas the lighter, less dramatic image has a closer view of the lighthouse with the cold blue of the night sky.

Lighthouse Prints

Several prints are available featuring the lighthouse with the gallery being updated to include new images. There is also a lighthouse gallery featuring images of lighthouses from a variety of locations around England and Scotland including Neist Point, Islay, and Scarborough.

Redbubble Store hits 300 images

By |2020-10-11T12:11:03+01:00October 12th, 2020|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , , , |

In late September the Richard Flint Photography Redbubble page passed a small, but significant milestone with over 300 images – from Norfolk, Edinburgh, Glencoe, Islay, North Wales and many more – now available to buy as wall art, clothing, phone cases etc via the online shop.

This year has been a tough one, for obvious reasons. The COVID pandemic has strayed into all aspects of our lives in ways that we’d have thought unthinkable until recently. With restrictions in place, the opportunities to gather new images for Redbubble etc have been rather thin on the ground so to pass the 300 mark shows a least a little progress. It’s definitely been a year for safely getting whatever small victories you can.

A week-long trip up to the Highlands of Scotland in September managed to gather some images to further boost the Redbubble submissions for this year. A new Ben Nevis collection of images has been started on the store containing images from a climb to the summit made on September 17th 2020. Definitely my high point :) in an otherwise unpleasant year. More images will be added to the collection over the coming weeks.

Redbubble Store Revamp

Redbubble logo

Over the summer a number of improvements have been made to this website and others including a long-overdue revamp of the Redbubble store.

The Richard Flint Photography Redbubble Store

Launched in June 2008, the Redbubble store has delivered prints and other items to customers around the world. Speedway photo T-shirts to Australia and iPhone cases and prints of Glencoe to the USA – just to mention just a couple of recent orders. Over the years the store has expanded further as new images and new products have become available. It was time for an update.

Framed Prints and much More

The Redbubble store needed some love. Especially critical was the photography available there needed to be categorized better. Most important was the range of items available really needed to be updated across the portfolios. Initially just framed prints and other wall art had been available. That has now all changed to include more clothing, mugs, iPhone and iPad covers, notepads and bags – to mention just a few products. In most cases over 60 products are now available to buy.

More Photos and Portfolios

The most noticeable change regards the portfolios. More categories have been added to aid those looking for images of a specific subject matter. Animals, lighthouses, coast, whisky, street photography and more have been added with more to come. The Scotland images have also been broken down into regional portfolios that currently include Islay, Jura, Edinburgh, Borders and Skye. It makes finding a favourite image so much easier.
